Tips to Prevent Stormwater Pollution in Your Community
You can choose to be a part of the solution! Here are some tips to reduce stormwater pollution in your community:
- Limit your use of pesticides and fertilizers.
- Pick up after your pet.
- Regularly sweep your sidewalks and driveways.
- Don't litter.
- Reduce the amount of hard (impervious) surfaces on your property.
- Don’t wash your car on hard (impervious) surfaces.
- Keep storm drains free from debris, including leaf piles.
- Disconnect your downspouts from storm drains and redirect them into your garden.
- Install a rain barrel, cistern, or rain garden.
- Ensure that your vehicles don’t leak oil.
- Contact your local representative to support green infrastructure projects.
